Show "Andy" May Now Answer the Phone; Relay Message When Convenient A recent addition to local telephone service is Andy, "the little man who wasn't there," who is currently cur-rently answering telephones for several local business and professional men when theyj are away from home or office. Andy, who is 15V2 inches wide and weighs only 45 pounds, is the Mountain States Telephone company's com-pany's new automatic telephone answering machine. When installed install-ed in a customer's home or office Andy performs his duties in an almost human fashion. The interior workings of his mechanical me-chanical body contain two recording record-ing cylinders to help him handle telephone calls efficiently. When a subscriber to Andy's services is going to be away from his telephone, tele-phone, he records a message on the first cylinder. Each time the telephone tele-phone rings during the subscriber's subscrib-er's absence Andy will automatically automatic-ally answer the call, play the recorded re-corded message, and after sounding sound-ing two high pitched tones will allow al-low the calling party to record a message on the second cylinder. When the subscriber returns to his office, he has a complete record of calls received during his absence ab-sence by merely playing back through his telephone the messages on the second cylinder. Andy's recording re-cording cylinders can be used over and over again and seldom need replacement. Andy has been especially popular popu-lar with local doctors, several of whom make use of these answering machines to receive messages from patients or to inform patients where they can be reached when they are away from home or office. of-fice. Small businesses which do not have someone in the office at all times are keeping their telephone doorway open to customers with Andy's help. Andy has also become a good friend to people whose jobs require them to be available for call 24 hours a day. (See picture on Page 2) "Andy" the Handy Mechanical Man Above is a photograph of "Andy", the name given the mechanical voice installed in a new device which answers the phone and records the message so that busy office personnel may read it later. In case of a doctor or others being out of town, "Andy" will answer the phone and impart the information or he may say where the person may be located. |
