Lou Thesz Lake City, Friday, July 30. i Lou Thesz, St. Louis, will place his heavyweight crown on the risk against the sensational young Wilbur Snyder, winner of the recent re-cent Utah eliminations. In signing London to handle the title clash, promoter, Dave Reynolds Rey-nolds of Orem, formerly of Springville, Spring-ville, has assured fans that both champion and challenger alike will have no special advantage. London has been certified by the National Wrestling alliance to referee this contest. The feeling is everywhere in mat circles that Thesz is riding for a fall. He has held the title since 1948 when he won over Wild Bill Longson of Salt Lake City. The constant strain of all these championship cham-pionship matches is showing on the champ. They are worried because Manager Man-ager Ed (Strangler) Lewis will be in the champ's corner. Twice before Thesz appeared here, but neither time was it important enough for Ol' Strangler to leave the business office. Snyder has met Thesz twice. A year"ago he lost in the Fairgrounds Coliseum, but three months ago he battled Thesz to a torrid draw in Los Angeles. That match showed show-ed 'em Snyder was going to be knocking on the championship door again. This time he may win it. Promoter Reynolds expects the match to eclipse the indoor attendance attend-ance record of their first match in the Coliseum. He said 5000 seats will go on sale at six p.m. the day of the match to accommodate fans who are not able to take advantage of the advance sale. s |
