Show properly qualified teachers tho the facts in my opinion will admit of cd only one conclusion viz that in teaching the results are not determined by the methods employed but by the tha ability of those who use them in other words the first place must bo be given to the personal equation of the teacher abi while e methods and devices play only a subordinate part it seems seema to ru abera therefore that the evils now ascribed to uncontrollable circumstances shoud be attributed tri buted in large part to a lack on the part of the teacher of thosa dalpa eions which are essential to consequently when reasonable reas onalle ds do mauds are not met within a reasonable time tima limit we are justified in in inferno ferrina that the fault lies with the teacher wed not cot with the pupils an instructive experience esperi ence I 1 encountered will servo serve to illustrate this point t on leaving a classroom in which I 1 had heard a few recitations I 1 complimented the teacher on an the intelligence of her pupils she replied yon must buot give me ina credit for that those thase children are russians and one can do anything with russians it so happened that on the next day I 1 visited a classroom in which the children were vere ex dull on this occasion tho teacher remarked ked you yon mut not blame me for their stupidity sly my pupils tire are nus russians and one cannot do anything with russians dr J M ries ir hs borum porum |
