Springville Scout Wins High Eagle Award at 13 It usually takes a long time for a young man to get his Eagle award one of the highest in scout, ing. In fact it is reported there is but one out of 2000 boys who ever reach the rank and most of them not before 18 years. In Springville, however, there is a young fellow, Calvin Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. LaCelle Sum. sion, who has gained this high honor at age of 13 and in recognition recog-nition of the achievement was recently re-cently honored by the Ninth Ward. While 21 merit badges are necessary nec-essary for the rank, Calvin had a total of 30 which entitled him also to the Bronze Palm award after a 6-month period. He is a member of Troop 69 and earned his- rank under Oliver Branam, Scoutmaster, who recently recent-ly moved to provo. The high award winner has served as scribe, senior patrol leader and president of the Deacon's Quorum of the Ninth ward. Last year, he was awarded first place prize in the Scout Craft Model contest held in Provo. A student in the Eighth grade, Calvin is interested in all phases of sports and plays the accordian in his spare time. Any young man who has attained attain-ed the Eagle award will vouch for the liberal education one gets in passing off the tests and requirements require-ments for the high Scout achievement. |
