Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Johnson have enjoyed the company of their daughters and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Selck of Salmon, and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Nebbel and their three children of Idaho Falls, Idaho over the week end. On Sunday they were also hosts to Miss J.erry Hallows of Modesto, California, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Lee of Spring-ville, California and Mrs. Elva Hall of Salt Lake City and her daughter Mrs. Arlene Harding of Orem. Binks I'liono 0I0!)-Kt Fifty-five members of the Springville Kiwanls Club were delightfully de-lightfully entertained Thursday night on the spacious lawns of Mr. and Mrs. Olenn Holley. Accordian selections were given by Mrs. Mary Bird which were followed by a very interesting talk by Sterling Trice telling of his experiences while touring Europe. A pantomime panto-mime reading was given by John I. Holley. A delicious Virginia baked ham supper with all its trimmings was served by Mr and Mrs. Glenn Holley assisted bv Mr and Mrs. Glenn Seal. The dedication of the Veterans Memorial Park of Mapleton will be held Thursday, September 10 at 7:30 o'clock on the Park A splendid program has been' arranged ar-ranged to which all citizens of Mapjeton and all other interested are cordially invited. Bishop Welby Warren will give the opening prayer, pra-yer, Aaron Mendenhall will be the principal speaker, Freeman C. Bird, Member of the City Council will give a report on what has already al-ready been done on the Park, and Patriarch Oscar Whiting will give the dedicatory prayer. The Third Grade Sewing Club met Friday afternoon at the home of Sharon Whiting.. A business meeting was held and Linda Johnson John-son was selected as president, Judy Wiscombs .vice-president, Sharon Whiting secretary. This club plans to meet weekly during the coming winter. In addition to the officers named above, the following are members: Patricia Anderson, Linda Lin-da Freeman, Connie Whiting, Ann Whiting, Venice Christensen and Kathleen Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Holley left Friday morning for a trip to Bryce and Zion's Canyons. They will be gone several days. The Needlecraft Club met Thursday Thurs-day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Eva M. Bird. Assisting the hostess were Mesdames Harriet Nielson, Bird Nielson, Myrtle Bird and Norma Wiilsey. A beautiful pieced quilt was made and luncheon was served to the following members: Marie Morgan, Esther Hurst, Van-da Van-da Jensen, Senate Mendenhall, Sadie Whiting, Mary Whiting, Inez Harmer, Amanda Binks, Millie Bird, Martha Whiting and the hostesses. hos-tesses. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Arlena Holley on Thursday, September 17. Mr. and Mrs. William H. Whiting Whit-ing returned Thursday from an enjoyable trip to Yellowstone National Na-tional Park. They returned by way of Bute, Montana. ' Friday morning they left, accompanied by their two grand children, Glenn and Kathy Johnson for Needles, California, where they will visit at the home of a son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Johnson. They will be gone several days. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harmer from their son Don that he will have to undergo an operation on his leg this week. Don was injured in an automobile accident sometime in May in Texas where he is stationed with the Air Corps. Robert Hurst who has joined the 191st Fighter Squadron of the National Na-tional Air Reserve has just spent two weeks training at the Boise, Idaho Base. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Waldon Hurst. Jack Morgan who has been in the intelligent department of the U. S. Army and has been stationed at Georgia will be released this week and will return home. He plans on continuing his University studies upon his return. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Binks is spending several weeks in California Califor-nia with relatives and friends. Her brother, Ren Thomas is seriously ill and it is primarily on his account ac-count that she is there. Dean' Binks has returned from the LDS hospital of Salt Lake City where he underwent an. appendix ap-pendix operation Tuesday morning. morn-ing. Mrs. Wilma Mower is recovering recover-ing from a minor operation performed per-formed at the Utah-Valley hospital hospi-tal Monday morning. Joe Plumlee of Salt Lake City was a visitor at the home of his mother, Mrs. Georgia Plumlee during dur-ing the week. Mrs. John Whitley and small children left Thursday for Ocean Park, California where they will join Lt. Whitley who is stationed there. He expects to go overseas November 1. Ralph Harmer was in charge of the Lion's Club meeting held this week which was a. social as well as business meeting with wives of the club members being special guests. It was held on the City Park lawin and a delicious pot-luck pot-luck supper was served around the fireplace. A swimming pool for Mapleton was discussed and the club members decided to turn the receipts of the July 24th celebration celebra-tion which amounted to $204.00 as a trust fund to promote this project. pro-ject. A committee was also appointed ap-pointed to investigate the possibility possi-bility of bringing gas into Mapleton. Maple-ton. Jack Canto and Hugh Hjorth were selected to act on this committee. com-mittee. Bob Curtis of Springville delightfully entertained the group with readings and accordion solos. Marvin Warren of Springville gave a talk on "lionism." The Junior Sewing Club enjoyed a party on the Springville City Park Monday afternoon, which terminated their meetings for this summer. They have been sewing for their Toni Dolls and the following fol-lowing girls have participated: Ruth and Marie Wentz, Suzanne Harmer, Joan Paulson, Patricia Hall, Linda Hall and Kay Lynn White. The Mapleton Seventies Quorum and their wives were well represented repre-sented at the Stake Seventies Outing Out-ing at Kelley's Grove Wednesday Wednes-day night. Those in charge of the Mapleton group were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Whiting, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Warren and Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Whiting. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Davis and son Ben who have been making their home in Mapleton this summer sum-mer left for their home in Alham-bra, Alham-bra, California this week, where Mr. Davis will resume his teaching teach-ing in the Alhambra High School. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Whiting have returned to their home in Lyman, Wyoming. Stewart has been attending summer school at the Brigham Young University this summer and will teach school in Lyman this winter. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Mendenhall are the proud parents of a baby girl born at the Utah-Valley hospital. hos-pital. Blaine Hales of Fort Lewis, Washington, accompanied by a friend, Ernest Farley of Mesa, Arizona who is also stationed at Fort Lewis are visiting at the home of Blaine's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reed M. Hales. , Mrs. S. LaVel Bird and daughter daugh-ter Mrs. Frank Oberhansley drove to Ogden Thursday and spent the day visiting with relatives and friends. The Priests and Elders Quorum of Mapleton enjoyed a hamburger supper Saturday night on the City Park with Darrell Warren and Bliss Harmer in charge.
