Show Italian Marble Statue to Be Added to Art Collection The Springville Kiwanis club is taking over the responsibilities, with the help of other clubs of the city to procure the marble statue offered to the Spring- ville high school art collection by Dr. Avard Fairbanks. The announcement was made this week by Principal Paul K. Walker and Mrs. Mae Huntington of the high school art committee, who stated that the high school art association would also supply part of the funds with which to secure the statue. It is hoped that the art piece will be sent to Springville in time for the April Art show. Currently valued at near $10,000 the statue is of the finest Italian marble, life size. It has been in storage in Italy for several years and the Springville high school is being given the piece by Dr. Fairbanks Fair-banks for paying the cost of storage, stor-age, packing and transportation which costs in the neighborhood of $3,000. A replica of the statue entitled, "Mother and Child," was seen at the high school some time ago and at the time Dr. Fairbanks offered the piece of the school. He made arrangements for shipping it home while on tour of Europe the past summer. Already several contributions have been given by individuals -interested in securing the statue and it is expected that all clubs of the town and others will cooperate in securing tho necessary funds with which to pay for this piece of art. Plaque. Given Every so often someone decides that the Springville high school art collection should include a piece of art of which they are proud and in this manner, the high school collection is growing and becoming more valuable. Only last week, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Reynolds Reyn-olds of Provo, formerly of Springville Spring-ville presented the high school with a plaque entitled, "Resting," by the artist Torlics Knathus. The gift had special significance in the fact that Mr. Knathus did the mur-ials mur-ials in the Fourth ward chapel and is known throughout the state for his fine work. The plaque is of a young girl reclining and will occupy a place on a stand among other art pieces of the high school art collection. |
