Show MRS. L GROOMS SERVICES HELD Largely attended and impressive services were conducted at the local Community church, Monday, for Mrs. Lydia S. Grooms, prominent prom-inent civic, church and club member mem-ber of this community, who died Wednesday, following several weeks illness, at the family residence, resi-dence, 110 West First Soulth street. Rev. G. Erwin of the Community church, Provo, was in charge of the services and gave the principal talk. Music was given by a quartet quar-tet from the Provo Community church, also Eugene Jacobsen of Spanish Fork, gave a violin solo, accompanied by his mother, and Mrs. Catherine D. Wills of Los Angeles, Cal., gave a vocal solo, with violin obligato by Mr. Jacob-sen, Jacob-sen, and piano accompaniment, Mrs. Bell Crandall. A. O. Smoot of Provo, offered the benediction. Members of the various local organizations, with which Mrs. Grooms was affiliated, were in charge of the flowers, the large number of which bespoke the esteem in wheih Mrs. Grooms was held by her many friends. Members Mem-bers of the ladies' auxiliary of the O. R. C. attended the services in a body. The Provo chapter of Eastern Star, conducted services at the graveside and the Rev. Mr. Erwin gave the dedicatory prayer. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery. Mrs. Grooms was born in Greenbrier, Green-brier, Ohio, September 17, 1861, a daughter of Aelx and Mary Cline Shriver. She was married to W. L. Grooms, March 3, 1889, in Kansas Kan-sas City, Kan. The family came to Utah in 1896, and has lived in Springville since 1913. She was a member of the Provo chapter of Eastern Star and was also affiliated with the ladies' auxiliary of railroad conductors. She was at one time president of the Home Culture club, local literary organization. She took an active part in the local Community Com-munity church, being treasurer of the ladies' Missionary society, at the time of her death. She also served as president of the latter organization for a number of years. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. G. Ray Hales, Spanish Fork; a son, William N. Grooms, Springville; 5 grandchildren grandchil-dren and seven brothers and sisters sis-ters as follows: Mrs. Ella Witter, St. Mary's, Kan.; Mrs. Mary Murphy, Wamcgo, Kan.; Mrs. W. G. Jones, Quinter, Kan.; Mrs. Eunie Gilbert, Glendale, Ariz.; Mitchel Shriver, Las Anamis, Colo.; James Shriver, Missoula, Mont.; Stanton Shriver, Klamath Falls, Oregon. |
