Show TWO WOMEN FOUND SLAIN IN OAKLAND After fracturing her skull, the assailant had searched the room for valuables and in escaping overloked $105 in cash which the aged woman had sewed in her nightdress. After a preliminary investigation, investiga-tion, police advanced the theory that the crime was committed by the same prowler. The boarding house,- an old-fashioned old-fashioned two-story building, was occupied solely by women. The two women retired late last night after chatting with boarders in the house. Early today, one of the boarders, Mrs. Daniel Harris, observed several drawers in a hall cupboard opened. open-ed. Mrs. Harris than entered her landlady's room. The two elderly women lay in their crumpled twin beds, the sheets and blankets saturated sat-urated with blood. The room had been thoroughly ransacked, but whether the burglar burg-lar had taken anything was undetermined. un-determined. OAKLAND, Calif., July H i (U.R) Bodies .of two elderly women, their skulls battered, were found in their beds in an Oakland boarding- house today. The victims, Miss Adela MerriH, 71, and Miss Millie Foots, 64, were discovered by other lodgers in the house. The double murder is believed to have been committed by a night prowler. The room occupied occu-pied by the two women bore evidence evi-dence of having been ransacked. Struck By Bottle Other rooms in the house also had been disturbed. Miss Merrill, who had lived in the house for 50 years, was struck on the head with a milk bottle ' by a burglar who entered her room more than four months ago. |
