Show TH THE E PATE PATENT NT M MEDICINE N E MAN bo waited long for results and aid they came with a rush hush it was more than 20 years ago that I 1 decided the thing was ready to tio be put on tho the market I 1 said the inventor of a cOmpa compound nud that has now nor passed out of the category of patent medicines and become well introduced the question that bothered me was how bow to get tho the stuff before the people and make them personally acquainted with its qualities les so eo that I 1 might find out whether my own faith and in the article were justified but how was ito I 1 to get it into peoples hands that was the question that I 1 had to answer I 1 went to the wholesale druggists and they said it would be useless to put it on their shelves as nobody would buy it I 1 sent it to doctors but that did very little toward getting the article into the hands bands of the people I 1 gave it away at fairs and the result was that a small portion of the people there got nearl nearly y all of the stuff while the others othor went without any plainly that would not do buti but I 1 know yet what I 1 would do after awhile it occurred to me that I 1 would start a man in a buggy boggy driving in a certain direction he was wa to distribute the stuff to everybody ho met on the road and in that way the stuff would finally get into the hands band of the people I 1 was going to hawk hava relays enough to stretch a line across the country and start a man from the west to come east through tho the territory the other man could not reach I 1 aws ats goin going 9 to send the stuff on ahead abend so that at different points on the road the man would be supplied with enough to give away the fellow started on his long trip and distributed thousands of packages of the stuff straff other men started in n different directions and there were only a few thinly populated and remote corners of the country that could not evve some personal experience of my invention the men finished their trips and I 1 waited but no response bame came the people whom I 1 had bad expected to answer with a cry for what I 1 hid had given them remained mute A year passed and aver every r cent of available capital had gone into tho the scheme thousands of dollars had gone and evidently no more had bad bien done toward creating a demand than if the stuff had been in a closet and leftt left there bere I 1 strained hard butI buk I 1 never could hear bear the voice of the public calling for my invention the months were miserable with suspense and despair until suddenly the public to metaphorically roared at me the rush had started in a way I 1 could ne never ver understand new york sun san |
