the eminent sculptor while the pedestal was designed by stanford white of now new york this date was chosen for the dedication because it is the anniversary of general logans taking command of the troops upon the death of general mcpherson toward the cost of the memorial the state legislature appropriated fifty thousand dollars the south park commission gave the cost of the pediment and several thousand dollars were raised by private subscription the equestrian bronze statue rests upon a granite pedestal surmounting a huge oval mound within which will be constructed crypts for the reception
