Show Nebo, Alpine Leagues j Keep Critics Guessing I Springville, Payson and Spanish Appear Strong In Pre-Season Games.; Provo, B. Y. and Lehi Favorites. FRIDAY'S SCHKlH'r.K Alpine Division . . I'ruvo at Amerfcun Fork. It. V. High at I.ehl. Lincoln at Pleasant Cirnvn. Xeho Division Payson at Kureka. Spanish Fork at Springville. With practice games over, high school basketball teams from all over the state, including the teams from the Nebo and Alpine leagues, will start their regular league games next Friday. Close battles for league championships cham-pionships appear almost certain in many of the state loops, according to the strength that has been shown by the quintets. Among the leagues expected to develop some close battles are these same Nebo and Alpine divisions.. . . , Fawt Nebo Teams ..In the Nebo division, especially, are some fast and furious contests believed to be on deck when- the teams get going. Payson, Springville Spring-ville and Spanish Fork each has a dangerous team, with Payson and Springville adjudged by many critics crit-ics as having the best chance of coming through on top of the league. However, Spanish Fork's team is a team of real fighters and the Fenton Reeve quint is not to be counted out until the show is over. j Coach Simba Thorn has at Springville a combination of tall and fast men who work together I nicely, and who have shown a lot j of scoring: nower in nraetice tilts. Friday's Games Friday, Payson will play at Eureka Eu-reka and Spanish Fork will come to Springville,. with Nephi taking a rest on the first night. The Alpine division is different this year than usual in that no outstanding favorite has developed before the start of the league. Lehi was somewhat of a favorite at the beginning of the year, but lost some of her supporters when reports of injuries and ineligibility ineligibil-ity came out. Pleasant Grove, the defending champion, has been unimpressive in practice games, the graduation of all five of the main team last i year crippling the Grovers. The Grovers appear to have a fair chance , for runner-up honors, but whichever Alpine team becomes runner-up, the Nebo runner-up winner appears now to have the best, chance of winning and going to the tournament, such is the caliber cali-ber of the teams in tne south part ; of the county. Provo a Favorite 1 Provo high and B. Y. high, to- gather with Lehi, are the favorites i &t the present time, with Lincoln and P. G. but a stride behind in pre-season guesses. On Friday Lincoln plays at Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, B. Y. high tackles Lehi, and Provo's Bulldogs travel to American Fork for the first league contests. |
