Show The Billboard Menace Motorists of New Zealand, organized in the South Island Is-land Motor Union, have started a campaign against roadside billboard advertising that American motorists might well The Union has voted to write to all firms which indulge in roadside advertising urging them to desist from defacing (he countryside. If they refuse, the Union "will take action io compel them to do so," it is said. There, of course, is the weak spot of the campaign, as far os the United States is concerned. If signs are erected on private property, with the owner's consent, there is little the public can do about it. Only an enlightened public opinion opin-ion can be really effective. Meanwhile, however, a eamnaign such as this of New Zealand might help to focu public attention at-tention on a very annoying problem. |
