Show Pern's Appointment Honors Utah The people of Utah county are pleased with Presidentelect President-elect Franklin B. Roosevelt's appointment of George H. Dern as secretary of war in the new cabinet. It is another instance in-stance where Mr. Roosevelt picked a man he knew from personal per-sonal knowledge had outstanding qualifications for the important im-portant position, the third ranking cabinet seat.' As indicated in the early dispatches from New York, the plans of the new administration contemplate highly important im-portant civil tSuties for the new secretary of war, in addition addi-tion to the cU'-'tomary administration of the war department. depart-ment. Governor Pern's friends are confident that he will measure up in every way to the requirements of the office, whatever they may be. It is highly pi'easing to the people of Utah that the new president should come to this state for one of his principal advisers, and indicates that the west will not be forgotten by the n-ew administratioii, as some politicians have feared. His selection is not only a tribute to Mr. Dern himself, but an honor to the state and the entire west, as well. . .
