Show representatives state that methods of application of chlorate . weed j ! killers are of vital impui tance fla i results may vary as much as 50 1 percent with the way the chemical I is applied. The theory of weed kill-j kill-j ing by chemicals is based on the jfact that the plant will absorb the, chemical through its natural chan- : , nels, carry it to the roots and ! destroy the plant, so that the greater the absorption the more effective ef-fective the lesulw. Maximum absorption Is gained through applying" the spray or dust over as large an area of the surface sur-face growth of the plant as possible; pos-sible; therefore, the best results at e obtained by treating the weed when it is in full bloom or loaf. The j national crop loss due to weeds i appalling. Unless effective met i at e taken to chock the (spread : noxious weeds and restore the ; footed areas to crop, the anm loss will continue to mount rapid . The couniry spends reariy ?"!.') And that means it is I growing time; time when the earth I wakes from her winter rest and puts life into plants and seeds. Unfortunately, Un-fortunately, the old weed patches will take on that life too, except it will be with renewed vigor and the area of last year's patch will be new enlarged growth which will cut down the crop area. It is time to think about removing remov-ing the weedH and the most- effective effec-tive method so far discovered is the use of chemicals. These chemicals chem-icals are known as chlorates and they are applied to the surface of the weed plant, either in the form of dust or liquid spray. Methods of application are vei-y important and for that reason District Dis-trict Inspectors H. V. Swenson and Earl Hutchins, have made arrangements arrange-ments for a free demonstration of spray equipment to be held at Pleasant Grove on the Smith Dal-ton Dal-ton farm, just across the road from the R. D. Wadley farm or. May 14 at 3 p. m., and on the Joseph A. Swenson property at Spanish Fork, on May 15 at 9 a. m. Chlorate Used The equipment which will be demonstrated is furnished by the Chipman Chemical Engineering company of Boise, Idaho, and is of the latest type, including nozzles, spray guns, dusters, etc. The demonstration will be for the farmers farm-ers of this section and they are cordially invited to attend and bring any specimens of weeds that are particularly annoying on their ranches. Loud speakers will be installed on the demonstration t'-nck so that everyone may hear the discussion of the weed problem The Chipman Chemical company |
