Show RELIEF WORK IS EXPLAINED AT MASS MEET The unemployment situation and its attendant problems of relief were discussed at Springville in a meeting held in the Memorial haf.l Satut day evening with a crowded house. J. C. Nielsen was chairman. Mayer John L. Whiting declared that over $6,000 have been' spent for relief work in this community during the past four months. C. work in Utah county, urged the citizens to make the best of what is provided, stating that Utah is now among the leading lead-ing states in the amount spent for relief work per capita. Mrs. Jesse Weight, of the social welfare department de-partment of Provo. explained that personal contact sVioulcl fee made with needy families, and a thorough thor-ough investigation conducted to determine the extent of their needs.. President J. Emmett Bird of Kolob stake, explained the proper agencies through which relief might be secured, stating that only a short time is requii ed to get necessary relief if fne proper method is used. Attornev G. G. Voodmansee, H. u. Thorpe and Arthur Case were other speakers. The spirit of agitation and in appreciation which is reported to exist in some cases where relief I tins been given, was denounced by each speaker at the meeting. |
