Show SHARKEY CAN'T WORRY CHAMP SchniL'Iinir Suys He's l-'ar From Fearful (if Talkative Title Contender. NEW YORK, Jan. 5 l .!'. Just as a matter of record. Max Schnifiin wants it known that he has no fear of Jack Sharkey. "I'm not afraid of Sharkey." the German champion told the United Press today. "I'll fight him anytime any-time Joe Jacobs makes the match. I've known since I took his best punches two years ago that I cnuld beat him. I want to prove it to the public. But Joe decides there is more money fighting Walker and Dempsey, Mr. Sharkey will have to wait unti next year.'' And Manager Joe Jacobs, indicated indi-cated Sharkey's chances of a championship cham-pionship bout in 1032 were entirely up to the Bostonian's most hated rival Jack Dempsey. "If I have my way Max will fight throe times this year Walker in February, Dempsey in June and Sharkey in September." Jacobs said. "However, if Dempsey wants to postpone his 'comeback' until September, Sep-tember, Sharkey is out of the picture pic-ture for 1932. I'd be a sucker to take Sharkey when Dempsey was available. Dempsey is still the best drawing card in the game. "Sharkey refused to fight Srtib-ling Srtib-ling in 1931 to decide who would get the first crack at the title. He flopped against Walker last fall. , "Then after beating Camera instead in-stead of going out and licking Loughian, Walker and all the other claimants he decided he wouln't fight anyone except Dempsey or Schmeling. "You see Sharkey never has been very good about giving anyone else a chance. Where does he have any kick if we stall him off and pick up the easy money?" Jacobs and his fighter are interested inter-ested chiefly in signing contracts for the Walker match at Miami next month. Max, arriving in New York yesterday on the S. S. Eu-ropa Eu-ropa after a six months visit to Germany, appeared in almost perfect per-fect physical condition. |
