Show SCHOLARSHIP STANDARD SET Y' Students Must Pass In Ten Hours or Discontinue Dis-continue Work All students who lai'j to pass the examinations this week, which marks the close of the autumn quarter quar-ter at Brigham Young university, in at least 10 hours, will be asked : to discontinue their studies at the! institution, according to Thomas C. Romney, chairman of the attendance attend-ance and scholarship committee. "We expect to eliminate those who have not passed in at least two-thirds two-thirds of their work," said Professor Profess-or Romney, "for the reason, that such a failure will indicate that the student is not in earnest in his studies. We cannot afford to permit per-mit students who are not workers to fritter away their time at this institution." L. John Nuttall, Jr., acting president presi-dent of the institution, confirmed the statement of Professor Romney. Rom-ney. lie added, however, that students stu-dents who bad some good reason for their failure such as illness or exceptional ex-ceptional other cases, might be put on probation for the winter quarter. Teachers of English report that students who are weak in freshman English will be asked to take additional addi-tional work in technical grammar and composition without credit for at least one quarter or until they show that they have a reasonable mastery of the subject. This provision pro-vision has been made for the reason that many of tbe students have difficulty dif-ficulty with their English work. One to poor understanding of the fundamentals of grammar. The winter quarter will begin next Monday, December 6. As soon as the teachers report their grades, failing students will be interviewed. |
