Show W CLUBS OF UTAH COUNTY SUCCESSFUL Final Report of Activity Is Made by Assistant County Agent Call; Valuable Training Train-ing Taken by Many. Final report of the 4-H club worn of Utah county, showing a very successful season, has been made by Assistant County Agent Anson B. Call to the state leader of club work, Mr. J. C. Hogenson. The report re-port shows that 39 clubs were organized or-ganized during the year, with 169 boys and 174 girls, successfully completing the work outlined. County Clubs Proniinent- Utah county has always occupied a prominent place in boys' ' and girls' club work. Last year the couniy repiesLMiLu, Lives were declared de-clared winner at the Utah state fair and later at the Portland fair. This year the two Utah teams at Portland won first places in two events. The work outlined for the boys is divided into crops and livestock. In the livestock division a boy may join any one of the following five clubs: calves, sheep, poultry, swine and rabbits. The crop work is made up of sugar beets, beans, and potato clubs. The girls' work consists of home making, canning, sewing, and cooking. cook-ing. One of the most wide-awake clubs in the county is the one at Genola, where eight boys and girls have just completed four years of club wuik.. j. ii auuiuun, eigiiL mure nave done three years' work with a larger number enrolled for one and two years. Valuable training is' offered the boys and girls in these clubs that proves important in later life. A typical example is the project in poultry just completed by Edward H. Boyer, of Springville, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Boyer. Good Poultry Project Young Boyer has maintained a flock of 225 white Leghorn chickens chick-ens during the year, keeping detail ed account of expenditures, income, and hours of labor spent on the flock. According to the report on file, his total receipts amounted to $1244.72 for the year. The expenditures expendi-tures for the corresponding period were $888.95, leaving a net profit of $355.77 for the year's work. Included In-cluded in the expenditures is the amount of $61.47 which he charged for 182 hours of labor at 35 cents per hour. In addition to his poultry work, young Boyer has participated in a swine project, in which he won first place, last year, winning a trip to the Portland exposition. He was a student at the Springville high school during the past year. |
