Show parly policy the salt lake tribune grows over the position occupied by ex sen ator brown in the politics of utah and says ex senator browns policy the party 0 utah last fall and it the policy of the present administration nave only in so far as office the tribune had so much to say in regard to office seeking and the reception that it has not yet awakened to a realization that citizens of utah opposing the tribunes policy can have greater aspirations in politics than merely the pie counter it predicted anat the reception would be made up of office seekers only which was proven false and now it makes the statement that the brown followers smashed the republican party of utah last fall in order to have the way to the national pie counter kept clear that charge is rather vicious and should merit only contempt could not the mckinley men sympathize with the balters in the sad wreck the can non trianne crowd has brought on the party to which all were at one time loyal the charge however must not be allowed to go unanswered in view of the past history brown men have reason to be proud of their position wo use the words mckinley men and brown men synonymously jor it is well known that senator brown stood for the stlouis St Louia platform and his policy was that of the successful candidate president mckinley there can be no disputing the fact it seems to us that mr browns policy was that of the administration had the brown men desired only that the way to the national pie counter were kept clear as charged they would have formed no alliance whatever with the balters bol but gone into the fight alone but the cannon tribune faction kept saying that if the mckinley men would but remain true to the proposed hydra headed campaign the balters would show they were still republicans by voting for the harmony ticket the mckinley men conceded to the balters everything they asked and what was the result defeat in its worst form came in dis britts where the bolt had assumed the largest proportions look at the mining camps for illustration the brown men remained true to the party both nationally and ideally and swallowed the most bitter doses that the ao bryan republicans could prepare and now their only thanks are that their policy was it appears taken deliberately with a view of letting all go to wreck at home if only the the national pie were kept clear f in view of the ruin that the can non Tribune course has wrought we repeat that the party will have to be built up again in utah in accord with the brown or policy it is the only way can be placed in the here in otah the bolt has been proven bad and the people of utah on their sober reflection are denouncing they can see now so many attendant evils so much van Buren ism in it that they will never worship at that shrine they will again align themselves with the republican party of the nation they are ashamed tobe classed with achin influential minority at washington regarded as but little bettar if any than pure populism in fact if there is not aright abent fac d the bolt will dimply lead to populism in utah as it did in heyada colorado and idaho |
