Show PICKING PEACHES DON'TS AND DO'S Suggestions by Prof. Abell, Horticulturist, Horti-culturist, Utah AgrL College. 1 Dontfs. 1. Don't pick green peaches. 2. Don't put overripe, wormy or cullt fruit in the picking pail. 3. Don't pick in bags or In baskets bas-kets on the ground. 4. Don't climb the trees, you will injure htem. 5. Don't bring the shipping baskets bas-kets into the orchard, they may carry weevil out of the state. G. Don't pour peaches out of picking pails into lugs or baskets. 7. Don't let peaches standin the sun. 8. Don't haul peaches la lumber wagons. 9. Don't handle peaches as you would potatoes. 10. Don't ship orchnrd run ; it isnt hafe. T)n's. 1. Pick only firm ripe peaches. 2. Drop overripe, wormy or cull fruit on the ground while picking. 3. Pick in metal pails. 4. Use short ladders for picking the higher peaches. 5. Use a lug box; it is more permanent per-manent and allows hauling of a heavy load in a shall space. If baskets bas-kets are used for hauling, use 12-inch 12-inch board betweiv layers and don't invert the baskets. Dimenson of lug boxes inside ; 12 inches wide, 1 Inches deep, 20 inches long with cleats on upper sides at ends. 0. Ease the peaches carefully out of pails into lugs or baskets. 7. As soon as picked, place peaches in shade. 8. Haul peaches to the pneking house on good springs. 9. Handle peaches as carefully as eggs. 10. Ship only carefully graded and U. S. inspected fmit. |
