Show PROMINENT PAYSONMAN PASSES AWAY John Henry Ejixon Dies In Salt Lake Hospital; Funeral Friday Afternoon l PAY SOX, Jan., 7. John Henry' Dixon, 7u, former Utah county commissioner com-missioner and well known business man of this city died, in a Salt Lake hospital Wednesday morning where he was taken last week for medical treatment. Porn at KirUand, Ohio, July 13. 1850, the son of Christopher S. and Jane Wightinan Dixon, he faced many of the hardships of pioneer . IV'e during his early boyhood. In 1S02 he crossed the plains with his parents in Captain Campbell's ox-team ox-team company. Upon their arrival in Utah in Octoler of that year the family settled in Payson. As a young man Mr. Dixon started start-ed in the cuttle and sheep business. Later he devoted his time entirely to the sheep industry and looking after his extenside lond holdings. In 11HK) he was elected to the office of commissioner of Utah county on the Republican ticket in which capacity he served for n numler of, years. He also was mayor of Payson city for two terms from 1899 to 1903. Previously he had been a city councilman. coun-cilman. At the organization of the Xebo stake of the L. I). S. church he became be-came a high councilman, serving in this position for many years with great integrity. He was always active ac-tive in public affairs and took an active part in polities. For many yours he was a member of the Utah county Republican central committee commit-tee and chairman of the local commit com-mit tee. In 1S7S he was married to Eliza Johnes. One daughter was born to them, Mary Jane Hickman, who died fifteen years ago leaving two children, chil-dren, Ferrin and Florence Hickman, who with his widow and the following fol-lowing brot hers and sisters survive sur-vive 0. F. Dixon, Ernst us Dixon. Mrs. Mary Nebekor, Mrs. Emma Douglass and Mrs. Estella Fair- banks all residents of Payson. Funeral services will be held in the Nebo stake tabernacle Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Payson city cemetery. |
