Show Over a million kikanee eggs being hatched Some one million, five hundred hun-dred thousand kokanee eggs obtained by the Department of Fish and Game are currently being hatched at the Department's Depart-ment's Scott Avenue, Midway and Whiterocks hatcheries for distribution in State waters. The kokanee is considered a bonus fish by , Department fisheries personnel in that during dur-ing its juvenile years it feeds primarily on plankton and thus offers little competition for the trout population in the same water. It serves as a forage fish during its first two or three years, being taken by hook and line only upon nearing or reaching maturity. |
