Show Ilavy sets Dec. 9 for NBOTC exam VAdm. W. R. Smedberg, III, Chief of Naval Personnel, announced an-nounced today that the 16th annual national competitive examination ex-amination for the Regular Naval Na-val Reserve Officers Training Corps will be given to eligible high school seniors and graduates gradu-ates on December 9. Application Applica-tion forms are now available and must be mailed by November Nov-ember 17. Designed to supplement the officer output of the Naval Academy, the NROTC program makes it possible for a young man to earn a regular commission com-mission while studying at the civilian college of his choice which has an NROTC Unit. All tuition, fees and books are furnished by the Navy, and the student receives an annual retainer re-tainer of $600 for not more than four years. During the summers the student goes on interesting training cruises as a midshipman. After completing complet-ing the usual four year college course, he is commissioned in the regular Navy or Marine Corps and goes on active duty as a prospective career officer offi-cer with the Navy's far-flung fleets. Immediate challenging assignments to flight training or submarine training will offer of-fer varied career potential to those who apply and qualify. High school seniors and graduates who have reached the 17th anniversary of birth and have not reached the 21st anniversary of birth on 1 July 1962 may apply for the NROTC aptitude test. Application forms are available avail-able at high schools, Navy Recruiting Re-cruiting Station or from the Chief of Naval Personnel, Department De-partment of the Navy, Washington Wash-ington 25, D.C.
