The meetings will be held in Springville Stake House with President Leo A. Crandall presiding. pre-siding. Sunday's general sessions will be held at 10 a.m., and at 2 p.m.. A welfare meeting will convene con-vene at 6:30 p.m., Saturday for ward and stake welfare committees com-mittees and will be followed by a Priesthood Leadership meet at 8 p.m. Urged to attend at-tend the latter meeting, are: Melchizedek Priesthood quorum quo-rum presidencies .group leaders, lead-ers, class instructors and members mem-bers of the High Council. Elder Smith, who has been a member of the Council of Twelve since 1910, is a son of Joseph F. Smith, the sixth president of the LDS church. He is known as one of the church's foremost historians, authors and authorities on doctrine. doc-trine. Accompanying the leader to the conference, will be his wife, Mrs. Jessie Evans Smith, for many years a prominent operatic oper-atic singer. She is a member of the tabernacle choir and often appears as a soloist and has made several recordings. Evening meeting The evening meeting following follow-ing the general sessions of conference, con-ference, will be under the supervision su-pervision of the MIA and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. As a special feature of the service, the Speech Choir will present the Book of Abraham from the Pearl of Great Price. People from all wards of the stake will participate. The Speaking Choir has rehearsed re-hearsed several weeks to prepare pre-pare this special event. Solo readers and speakers will assist the choir. Organ background music will be played by Margaret Mar-garet Schreiner. Mrs. Merle Schreiner, speech and drama director, has written writ-ten the continuity using the scriptures from the Book of Abraham to prepare the script. Musical numbers are under the direction of Mrs. Alberta Hoover. Special lighting by Ronald Jensen, will also add to the effectiveness and interpretation of the writings of Abraham, as will the costumes worn by the various characters. |
