Show I cJletterS to tke ditor Group Protests Country's Policy Editor's Note The following communication was received this week from the Public Affairs Af-fairs Forum of Utah County, and is being printed as the opinion of the signers and the organization they represent only, and not necessarily that of this newspaper. Answers to this and other forum articles and the opinion of all readers are welcomed so long as they are not of a slanderous nature. Unanimously adopted March 4, 1958 The Public Affairs Forum of Utah County: In view of present circumstances circum-stances and conditions in the country and especially in our county, be it Resolved that:. The Public Affairs Forum of Utah County is alarmed by the increasing industrial depression; depres-sion; ,and vigorously protests against the apparent minimiz-ine- of it hv the Government. erally, the same as layoffs are doing throughout the country. We are also opposed to the increase in cost of postage stamps and urge Congress to kill any bill that would raise such costs. We respectively submit that the real purpose of our Government Govern-ment is to protect the right of our people to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." While we favor generous assistance as-sistance to feed the hungry, clothe the ragged and house the homeless people in those countries that have been ravished rav-ished by war; we unalterably oppose giving arms to reactionary reac-tionary monarchs or money to buy their influence in granting concessions. As an alternate program, we urge the Administration and Congress to abandon the cold war policy and adopt in its stead one that will end the present depression, benefit our people, "promote the general welfare," world peace, security and progress. We likewise protest against the President's program and practical demand for appropriating approp-riating an additional four billion bil-lion dollars for so-called "Mutual "Mu-tual Security;" and urgently request the Congress to refuse to grant the money so requested. request-ed.
