A surprise was given them by their friends bel'oro their departure, at which Mr. Murray was presented with an elegant (fold watch, and his wife was complimented with a handsome album. Mr. Murray has been enirao-od as secretary to Dr. Franklin, the mining man. The question of a waterworks system is being agitated at Mount Pleasant. Richfield has just voted bonds for this purpose, and other towns in the county are talking waterworks. A good water system is a public necessity and every set- tlement should have it. The cost is inexpensive and any town can afford to bond for this purpose. Manti would not dispense with her waterworks system and fall back on the filthy ditches for four times the cost, and neither would any other town that has tried it. James C. Meiling, one of the pioneer settlers ofMt. Pleasant and a well-known citizen of Sanpete county, died at his homo last Wednesday Wed-nesday evening, aged sixty-eight years. Mr. Meilino- was born in Denmark and came to Utah in liSofi, enininno- in business at Kph-raim, Kph-raim, afterward locating at Mt. Pleasant, which has been his home until his death. He was prosperous prosper-ous and was respected as a man of sterling worth and integrity. His wife and seven children survive him. |
