Show td I EXIT VARDAMANENTER NOEL I Special Interest centers in tho change of governors gov-ernors In Mississippi noxt January because of s N tho sharp controversies which have occurred between be-tween the present Incumbent Gov Vardaman and President Roosevelt Tho now governor elect K F Noel occupies rather a unique position posi-tion not only in tho history of his county but of his state as ho Is the first citizen of Holmes r chosen not anI but county ever only ns governor 1 for any state olllco and so far as can be ascertained ascer-tained he was tho first to ho chosen to any office r wti of-fice outside his county and that was when ho was elected district attorney In 1887 The public life of Edmond F Noel began In r 1882 when ho was the youngest member of the ti + house of representatives in which he served two II t terms and was afterwards elected dlslrlcl attorney attor-ney in 1887 which post ho also held for two terms serving until 1895 when ho was chosen us state senator for Holmes county serving as such until the end of 1903 In which year ho was for the first time a candidate for Governor with Messrs Vardaman and Critz Mr Noel has a brief war record of eight months having enlisted In 1898 during tho war with Spain as a private In the Second Mississippi Company Com-pany K commanded by Colonel W A Montgomery and was chosen captain by acclamation and with it was attached to tho Seventh Army Corps under General FlUhugh Lee Mr Noel has been twice married first to Miss Lulu Hoaklns of Lexington Lexing-ton who died In 1891 und In 1905 he was united in marriage with Mrs I Alice Tyo Nollsou daughter of Colonel J F Tyo of Plckona r r |
