Croer Building, Office at Crccr Building SPANISH FORK, UTAH The Captain, Engineer and One other Man Saved Out of Crew of Eighteen Men. In the course ot a Washington. speech In the senate on Monday, Senator Tillman commented characteristically on financial affairs. He said he believed that President Roosevelt was a patriot, and that while he had been guilty of many indiscretions and said many things which In cooler moments he would have been willing to take out of print, he did not believe that the president felt any satisfaction whatever In having been instrumental in causing the present financial paralysis, as had been charged. If we are not In the midst of a panic, we are in the midst of a chill produced by danger of a panic, declared Mr. Tillman. The senator held aloft a clearing house certificate and loudly called upon the senate to look at it. Here is a specimen, he declared. Looks like what you call confederate money shlnpl aster and yet they are Issued by national banks. Look at It I am going to have it engraved if It can be done without destroying It and put it In the Congressional Record. And I dont propose to have it destroyed and lose a dollar just to enlighten you on currency. He wanted only good greenbacks, and. After successfully ing out a succession of gales which she encountered alt the way across the Atlantic, In which she lost all her life .boats, the American schooner Thomas W. Lawson was capsized in Broad Sound, Scllly islands, where the captain took shelter from the fierce storm raging along the English coast Of the crew of eighteen, including Pilot Hicks, who boarded the vessel from the life savers boat during the night only three were saved. These were Captain G. W. Dow, of Melrose, Mass., Edward L, Rowe, the engineer, of Wiscasset, Me., and Geo. Allen of Bramford, England. Allen is not expected to live, and Captain Dow is suffering from a fractured arm. His rescue was effected only through almost superhuman efforts of the life savers and the gallantry of Frederick Hicks, son ot Pilot Hicks, who accompanied them on their second trip in the hope of finding his father. Late in the' afternoon, after a long search, Captain Dow and Engineer Rowe were taken alive in the locks, to which they clung for more than fifteen hours, the tremendous waves preventing their making a landing. Young Hicks plunged into the boiling seas and swam ashore, carrying a life line, by means of which Allen and the captair hauled back to the boat the engineer, who was practically uninjured. t HEAVY LOSS OF. Senators Teller, Cup tls and La Follette, composing the committee which was authorized to Investigate the affairs of the Klcka-po- o Indians, will soon submit to the senate a report giving the names of several persons who are alleged to have dealt fraudulently with the Klckapooos who emigrated to Mexico and who disposed of their lands at Shawnee, Okla. The report mentions a clique known as the people. and says that their conduct In securing the valuable lands owned by the Mexican Klck&pno Indians was criminal and brutal in the extreme.
