Show Tbe Schools On Friday last the schools of this district dis-trict closed for their summer vacation egrets and joys made the day one to be remembered by pupil and teacher To compensate for parting regrets present pre-sent joys mingled with momentary pleasures and led the mind from all 1 paths of sadness Children do become attached to teachers and teachers to mpilfl and that attachment is never made BO manifest an on thclast day of school Last Thursday afternoon good social I time was participated in by the children chil-dren in the various rooms of our school 1 buildings Every teachers disk was laden with good things to cat brought by the children and purchased with their nicklo contributions Song and story pleasantries and laughter enlivened enliv-ened room and hall and added to the general happiness of tho hour i Friday morning came All the pupils pu-pils assembled in their rooms to learn whether or not they had been promoted and to receive their promotion cards Teachers finished their work and then with the pupils went to the opera house 0 what a crowd was there Sardines could not be packed more snugly in a box than the children were in the opera house A well arranged program was rendered by the children representing all the schools in this district When the closing song led by Prof Roylance had issued from a thousand throats the pupils repaired to their homes for lunch At 2 oclock in the afternoon children chil-dren and teachers met at the city pavilion ilion where for three hours they engaged en-gaged in the dance They danced the mazy waltz the vigorous twostep the animated quadrille and best of all the enlivening oldtime shoemaker Many anxious mothers came to witness the pleasure of so many children and to live in the sunshine that issued from so many happy faces All seemed to share the happiness the hour In the evening that same little opera house was filled to overflowing with parents and young people After a selection se-lection by the Springville orchestra the program began The striking feature in the program was a competition in i singing Each grade above the third 1 was a competitor and strove hard for the beautiful pilvcr trophy which was to be given the grade that excelled in i the rendition of its musical selection Needless to say the contestants die themselves proud Interspersed with beautiful and fantastic drills am marches and praiseworthy recitations the program was lively and of special I merits The drills were well selected and the welltrained children evidence the efficiency of their teachers Th following is the program rendered Coiniwtltlon tin rujp Ilue of Our Owi Country Drill beginners und 1st crudes omk > llllon Mh grade Old Oiikon I lluclut t Drill bcclnnrrx und crude + Kccluillon LclundKohool CompulUlun itch Ira < lcOI CUUen Uueket Drillml grades Sunk PulmruMhooi Competition Tin erudcMusli1 In llie Air Drill I 3rd grades Itcvftutlon high school Competition Htli uriulp Old If cnliicUc Home Intense interest centered in the aaju dication which was given by T R Ke fly of Springville The seventh grades were given the award and Mr Kelly made the presentation of the silver trophy The schools certainly gave an entertainment par excellentan evidence evi-dence of the splendid work done during I the past school year Saturday evening the schools gave 11 dancing matinee in the city pavilion It 1 was well attended and in every way n success We take pleasure in announcing that the school board of this district have established a kindergarten for children between the ages of four and six Fo r this act the board is to be congratulated congratulat-ed The opening session will be held on Mpnday morning in the central school house There will be no charge to parents for the attendance of their children Miss Mirmie Berry will be one of the teachers All children in town arc invited to be present at the opening session W C Beckstrom and L W Nielsen will attend the U of U during the summer session Ed M Rowe will attend at-tend the Leland Stanford University On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week a county examination was given the 8th grade graduating class by John T Morgan and Supervisor Rowe Saturday May 16th will be a gal day for Spanish Fork All the high schools of the county will assemble here for closing exercises and for the final track and field contest Educators from the leading institutions of the state will be present The best of singing will 1 be rendered and the best of speechmaking speech-making listened to The race course Is 1 i in splendid condition the various track teams arc doing their best to win out in the final contest Our local boy have organized and are working hard to hold their own with the rest of the teams They have > e encouragement of the board and are trying to excel People dont fail to see this event It 1 will be an entertainment for the people I and a boost for the town |
