Show I1II01L PARK j. WMKED Highway Enthusiasts From Twelve Western States Outline Plans. LIVINGSTON", Mont., Aug. 11. The organization or-ganization of the National Parks Touring Tour-ing association was effected today at the final session of the meeting of highway enthusiasts of twelve western states at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National park. Resolutions setting forth the purposes of the association to be the organization, development and promotion of tourist travel between western national parks were adopted at the meeting. The completion of the Eel ton road across Glacier park in Montana; indorsement indorse-ment of a plan of the department of the interior to promote and organize a tourist tour-ist and travel bureau similar to European bureaus and the urging of congressional delegations from the twelve states represented repre-sented to work for the building and improvement im-provement of highways between national parks in the west and the increasing of appropriations for road work in western states, especially between playgrounds, were also advocated in the resolutions. The delegates went on record as fostering fos-tering a plan to bind the national parks of the west by a system of highways into a single unit of competition with Europe for tourist travel. Gus Holms, of Cody, Wyo., was named president of the association; George Ramsay, Ram-say, of Helena, Mont., general vice president, presi-dent, and L. L. Newton, of Cody, Wyo., secretary-treasurer. The following state vice presidents were selected; Scott Leavitt, Great Falls, Mont.; W. J. Hoffman, Hoff-man, Portland, Ore.; Frank W. Guilbert, Spokane, Wash. ; J. H. Smoot. St. Anthony, An-thony, Idaho; Fred Pattee, Casper. Wyo.; A. W. Agee, Ogden, Utah; Harry Bur-hans, Bur-hans, Denver; J. E. Kaulfess, Bismarck, N. D. ; O. M. Phelps, Huron. S. D. ; J. H. Rayburn, Scott Bluffs, Neb.; H. O.' Coo-ley, Coo-ley, Minneapolis, and E. C. Grant, San Francisco. A meeting supplemental to the sessions which ended today rfnd at which additional addi-tional plans for the development of inter-park inter-park highways will be made, is scheduled sched-uled in the fall at Denver. Members of ! the National Parks Touring association i and other organizations will join in the i interpark highway movement at the Denver meeting. |
