Show TRUCK Til !S NEARING COIL Warrior Machines Parked on West Bank of Mississippi Missis-sippi in Iowa. Special to The Tribune. CLINTON, Ia.f Julv 22. The Victory truck train of the United States army is parked on the west bank of the Mississippi Missis-sippi tonight, a thousand mile out of Washington, and a third of the way to its goal, San Francisco. The sixty-eight warrior trucks, under command of Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Colonel W. C. McClure, rolled down to the big river through 182 miles of Illinois roads, mostly dust-filled ruts, in the last two days of going, A good many detours were made from the Lincoln highway because of pavings and repairs that artery is undergoing. This increased mileage appreciably, and one or two defective bridges gave the engineer engi-neer corps some practice, but these difficulties diffi-culties were steadily surmounted and the expedition arrived with all the trucks that got through the Alleghenies a. week ago, and a half dozen more taken on by Colonel Col-onel McClure at Chicago Heights yesterday yester-day morning. From all . the farmers along the way the soldier drivers heard repeatedly of the luck that attends the convoy as regards re-gards continued dry weather and the na- : ture of the roads themselves proclaimed danger to a heavy train such as this in a rainy season facing the run to the Missouri Mis-souri and out over the great plains. |
