| Show T 11 AT ulac ami fijal full text of the proclamation cla mation DECLARING UTAH A STATE how saturday day wa celebrated in arrovo and elsewhere A proclamation by the president cf the united states of W ereah the congreso Con gresi of the united states passed an act which waa approved on the sixteenth day 0 july eighteen hundred and ninety four entitled an act to enable the people of utah to form a constitution and state government and to be admitted into the unica on an equal footing witti the original states which act provided for the election of deletes to a constitutional convention Convan tion to meet at the seat of government 0 the territory of utah on the farat monday in march e hundred and ninety five for the purpose of declaring the adoption of the constitution of the united state i by the people of the proposed state and cormine a constitution and state government for euch state and whereas delegates were ac cordingly elected ho met organized and declared on behalf of the people of said proposed states their adoption ot ane constitution of the united states all as provided in said act and whereas said convention so organized did by ordinance irrevocable with the of the united and ane people of eaid state as required by said act provided that perfect toleration of religious sentiment be secured and no inhabitant of said state shall ever be molested in person or property on account of hia or her mode of religious worship hut that polygamous or plural marria gaa are forever prohibited and did a eo by said ordinance make various eions recited in section three of said act and whereas aard thereupon formed a and state government for said proposed state which constitution i said ordinance was duly submitted to people thereof at an election held on tuesday next after the first monday oi november hundred and ninety five as directed by said act and the edurn of said eleccion ele clion has been made and canvassed and the to tae together with a statement ot cast and a copy of eald con aud ordinance all fla provided in aard act browing that a 0 votes lawan ly cast at such election was for the ratification and adoption of oaid conati antion ind ordinance and whereas tho and government of laid proposed state are republican in form and said constitution la not constitution of tb united and the declaration ot independence and all provisions of eaid act have been complied with in the formation of tho aard constitution and now therefore I 1 grover cleveland president of the united states of america in accordance with the act of congress aforesaid and by authority thereof announce the result of said election to be as BO certified and do hereby declare and proclaim that the terms and conditions prescribed by the congress of the united blaes to entitle the bbate 0 utah to admission into the have been duly complied and that the creation of said state and its admission into the union on an equal footing with the original ia now accomplished in whereof I 1 have here unto bet my land and caused the seal of the united states to be affixed done at the city of washington this fourth pay of january in the year of our lord ona thousand eight hundred and ninety bix and the independence of the united of america the one hundred and twentieth signed by the president seal jrichard deare tary of state joyous and enthusiastic acclaim went up from every and hamlet from every city nd from every nook and corner of all utah ant provos celebration was equaled by none anywhere the in the tabernacle was attended it in acirit and enthusiasm an old time rousing fourth of anly celebration able and well delivered I 1 speeches ringing with patriotism aud heartfelt thankfulness to god for freedom achieved in every line were made by hong 8 R thurman SS Jones geo H bramball Brim ball alward partridge roger farrar W N sanberry aud john B and by mesdames elada bullock josephine kellogg aud annie jones atkin the choir did proud too and mayor holbrook Holb never before pre adad over a co epting with as much grace and dignity his whole heart and adol in the work original Ori einal songs were auns original oriz inal were read all excellent and appropriate there was not a hitch the meeting the whole days tian was a grand eucce eB the committee who had it in charee are fully of the praise all aie Dee towing upon them the daye festivities closed with a grand ball in the opera house i which was also a euc cesa |
