Show WH baths the left for the new council the city council met monday evening in adjourned session president keeler presided all members were present PETITIONS AND communications the official bond of mayor elect holbrook was presented approved and filed recorder dixon stating that the certificate of the election of mayor holbrook had been filed in his office oscar B young and others petitioned to have the city taxes assessed against mrs ellen aieleen Ni eleen a widow remitted granted david P felt petitioned to have the city taxes assessed against pearl ewing an orphan and minor remitted grant od mrs elizabeth goolo a widow petitioned to have her city taxes of emitted granted councilor mcewan verbally asked for the remittance of city taxes assessed against mrs louisa J cochran a widow granted A similar petition in behalf of mrs margaret A snow a widow was referred to the committee on finance thos E thurman asked that mrs chas millers taxes be remitted upon motion of councilor knudsen 5 was abated REPORT OF CITY OFFICERS city surveyor searle presented a communication muni cation recommending the change of the grade of C street between 9 and alth streets raising it six inches report adopted miscellaneous BUSINESS the report of the committee on weir dam adopted at a previous meeting came up for reconsideration agreeable to a motion carried at the last meeting of the council this report recommends it will be remembered the building of the weir dam in connection with the county which desires to construct a bridge over the river at about tho same point councilor knudesen moved iab reference to a special committee that committee to confer with the several canal companies interested in the waters of the river and arrange to get their co opera tion in the building of the dam councilor mcewan opposed the motion because it was too late for tho council to refer anything to a committee as tho council would not have time to take any action in the matter it was better to leave the matter in abeyance for the next council to take up councilor glazier was in favor of the reference and believed that it would be an advantage tor the incoming council to know what the canal companies would do towards bearing their part of the expense of building the dam councillors councilors Counci lors holdaway and ward opposed to do anything in the matter at present preferring to leave the new council to do as they thought best in the matter councilor mcewan moved to lay the report on the table carried on motion of councilor mcewan the special committee on weir dam was instructed ted to inform the county court that the question of building the dam was left for the new council to take such action upon as it may desire carried the same gentleman moved that the treasure be instructed to furnish members elect copies of the city ordinances carried CLAIMS the following claims were allowed dispatch publishing co publishing ordinance etc 1150 skelton co stationery L S Glazie rhay W H gray plow handle GO A hay the claim of W B bearle and others for 80 was referred to the special committee on survey of provo city for certification council adjourned for one week |
