| Show campaign begun in utah county THE BIG THREE housing held at santa torchlight procession republicanism had a great day on monday in the south portion of this county the opening gun was fired at santaquin San and the echo re sounded to all democratic strongholds strong holds in that section the fifty sturdy ad locates of american patriotism and american Ams rican protection of santaquin San were enthusiastic in their work that day preparing for the coming of tha republican state candidates on the arrival at the U P depot of the distinguished visitors hons heber dwelle MW elle C E alien and frank J cannon and county chairman graham 9 large number of citizens were there to receive them with the excellent santa quin silver band and the popular payson drum corps A procession was formed and with banners flying the party drove into town A sumptuous dinner was prepared for the visitors at the residence of mr and mrs 0 A the democrats had evidently intended to interfere as much as possible with the republican pro gramme the meeting had been advertised two weeks kindly invitations had been extended to the people generally and considerable interest waa evidently being awakened awaken pd among democrats as well as republicans over the expected visit of the republican chieftains when the few hardshell democrats conceived the idea of getting up a counter attraction in the shape of feast which was to commence at the exact time the republican meeting would open A commodious hall was engaged the preparations were made and even after the republican visitors arrived in town it seemed as though the affair would take place but an hour or two before the republican meeting was to commence some better natured democrats became disgusted with the movement protested and finally induced the leaders to put off their love feast till evening thus set at liberty the democrats flocked to the republican meeting the rally was an immense success coming governor H M wells the state treasurer jas chipman our congressman 0 E alien and present delegate to congress frank J cannon with the famous provo quartette entertained the hundreds of people gathered on the occasion in royal shape there is no doubt that a lasting impression was left on the minds of many democrats present on this occasion A number of conversions conver siona to the party of progress may be looked for in the near future the party was conveyed in carriages buggies etc in the evening to payson where they arrived in time to take part in the monster parade at that place ohp demonstration was a grand one the entire city was brilliantly illuminated with torches flambeaux and fireworks nearly 2000 persona were in line with the springville Spring ville silver band and drum corps pro vos scarlet coated drum corps provos famous marching club of one hundred strong and a couple of hundred of provos leading citizens the payson band and drum corps were also there crowds of citizens from spring ville spanish fork and surrounding towns the speakers held the for a of three hours tho opera house was literally packed hundreds of persons surrounding the building and listening from open doors and windows an overflow meeting was held at the meeting house which was also crowded the utmost enthusiasm prevailed and the demonstrations at both santaquin San and paydon will long be remembered it was a great republican day and this truly is another republican year |
