Show CM PIES Mi DEG!DEDSETBftCK CHICAGO, June IS. Corn underwent a decided setback in value today, largely owing to the spread of opinions that the present growth of the crop was far ahead of normal and that serious damage from hot weather was unlikely. Prices closed weak, 1 to 2c net lower, with July $1.43 to $1.44 and August $1.4S to $1.45. Oats lost to c. In provisions the outcome ranged from 55c decline to an advance of 2 cents. Government reports that the force of the hot wave had been broken througnout a wide section did much to put the corn bulls at a disadvantage. Selling pressure increased to a material extent, compared with what has of late been the rule, and although numerous small rallies took place, ensuing declines showed a great deal more impetus. In the end. many early buyers were attempting to unload, and the market was without tangible support, in spite of some falling off in receipts, and notwithstanding assertions that a fair shipping business had been done of late with the east. Lower temperatures and excellent croft ' reports weakened oats. A slight revival of export business, though, acted partly as an offset. Provisions sympathized with the weakness weak-ness of grain. The only active demand was from shorts in lard. RAXGE OF THE LEADING FUTURES. Open. High. Low. Close.
