Show BLOOD SERUM AS INFLUENZA CURE CHICAGO, Oct. IS. A blood serum used as a curative in the east only in desperate cases of influenza will be tried out in Chicago and Illinois, the state influenza in-fluenza commission agreed tonight. The commission is faced with a difficult problem prob-lem to obtain the curative in sufficient quantity, as It was stated that eight ounces of blood must be taken from a patient, who has survived the malady, to produce three ounces of serum. The commission received first-hand reports re-ports of experiments of thfs serum from Dr. Herman N. Bundesen of the Chicago health department, who returned todav from an eastern trip. The commission laid emphasis on the fact that the serum should not be confused with vaccine now in use. The vaccine is a preventive and the serum is used as a curative only in very bad cases. |
