Show WAR PRISON IS QUARANTINED BY MILITARY ORDER A general order placing the third war prison barracks and grounds at Fort Douglas under quarantine, as a means of . protecting the camp from influenza, was issued yesterday afternoon by Colonel George L. By ram, prison commandant. The order went into effect immediately. As yet not a case of the infection lias developed either inside the prison compound com-pound or among members of the guard company. The commanding officer, however, how-ever, deemed it wise to take extra precautions pre-cautions against the malady being taken into the camp or spread among the guard and to this end issued the general quarantine quar-antine order. The order establishes an absolute quarantine quar-antine and no person not connected with the prison organization will be allowed inside the war camp grounds except on essential business. yiglitseers and the public are warned not to attempt to enter the prison territory under penalty of arrest ar-rest for violation of quarantine orders in addition to trespass upon prison property. prop-erty. Text of Order. The official order issued by Colonel Byram is as follows: "1. The war prison barracks and grounds are placed in a state of quarantine. No one not connected with the prison will be allowed inside the prison grounds except ex-cept on business. "2. It is the duty of all officers and enlisted men connected with the prison to help enforce t his order. The men of the command are confined to the grounds of the war prison. "3. The men who must necessarily leave on business will be granted passes by their respective commanding officers. '4. As far as is possible all travel on the street cars will be avoided." As yet no general order has been Issued placing the entire post under quarantine, but the military authorities have asked the public In co-operate in establishing an unofficial quarantine by keeping away from the fort unless it is necessary to visit there on business. The firt deaths from influenza occurred at the post isolation hospital yesterday. Two soldiers were claimed by the disease during, the d:iy. both of them having been . sent to the hospital with tho malady from the student army training camp at the I University of Utah. Deaths at Hospital. William L. Jacobs of Heber City died from pneumonia resulting from the influenza in-fluenza yesterday morning and during the afternoon Roy F. Nelson of Randolph was claimed by the disease. A report was received at the army general gen-eral hospital during the afternoon t hat Sergeant Frank A. Onluay. nine! y-third base hospital organization, had died of I Influenza in the city hospital at Ogden. Ordway was taken off a train at Ogden. he having developed the disease, while, en route to the east. His death occurred a few hours after he reached the hospital. Nineteen new cases of the disease were admitted to the post isola tion hospital yesterday. Of this number five were from the training corps at the University of Utah and fourteen from organizations at the uost. There is now a total of about 220 cases at the post. |
