Show CLOSING PLACES HAS GOOD 'FLU' EFFECT WASHINGTON, Oct, 13. The epidemic of influenza has suhsided somewhat in eastern states, but continues to spread in the middle and far west. On the basis of meaeer reports received today, officials of the public health serv ice bureau were optimistic that the stringent measures taken, such as closing schools, churches, theaters, and forbidding public gatherings gather-ings generally, had begun to show a beneficial bene-ficial effect. Health authorities of California today reported the malady to be spreading in that state. From t'tah came a similar report, while numbers of new cases were rpported in Arkansas, Iowa. Louisiana. Mississippi, Minnesota, New Mexico and South Dakota. Information that the disease dis-ease was abating came from Massachusetts, Massachu-setts, Ohio. New York and Maryland. |
