Daniel L. Spracue. formerly of Salt Lake, recently met his death. A fortnight prior lo this traffic event Mr. Spracue penned the following fol-lowing lines, which he entitled, "When France Is Free": We have crossed the hrinv ocean To the sound of fife and drum; We are over here in legions And there "re millions more to come. " And every single Yankee soldier With all comrades will agree That we return to loved ones only When our dear old France is free. So rally round the dear old flag That waves so brave and true, And France will know the deht is paid By the grand Red, White and Blue. Then two nations shall be welded And two flags shall wave as one. And two shores shall seem the greener 'Neath a warmer, brighter sun. So we'll grasp that dear "Old Glory" And w-e'll take it through the line; We'll plant it first upon the Marne, And then upon the Rhine. And no Hunnish power shall stop us When our march we once hein. And we'll count ourselves the victors When we plan, it in Berlin. Then when Freedom's cause has conquered con-quered And we're once more homeward bound, We'll look for just one sacred spot On Kurope's bloodstained ground. And then with honest heart and soul We'll humbly bend the knee, And thank our great Creator That our dear old France is free. |
