Show DENVER GAS PLANT EMPLOYEES STRIKE DENVER, Colo., Aug. 16. More than 300 linemen, gasfitters and gas stokers of pie Denver Gas & Electric company struck today, demanding increased pay and a closed shop. The strike followed the discharge of eight union men. William Wil-liam J. Barker, manager of the company, com-pany, said they were dismissed on account ac-count of a shortage of work, but the strikers declare it was because of union activity. The electrical workers are demanding- $6.f0 a flay, Instead of $4.75 they now get : the stokers an advance from $3.75 to $4.25, and the fitters from $3.50 to $4.V.0. U is expected the national war labor board will be asked to mediate. The gas company says its patrons will not be inconvenienced by the strike. |
