Show WILL DRAFT 1 MEN IS CLEM BOARDS Class One Registrants Will Be Taken From the Utah Lists. Captain F. V. Fitz Gerald, draft, executive ex-ecutive officer for L'-lah, was authorized by General K. II. Crowder, provost marshal mar-shal general of the United States army, yesterday to raise a force of forty men in (his state from registrants in class 1 who are in group C. or physically qualified quali-fied only for special or limited military . service, for service in the army, under federal pay. The men will be assigned to the various va-rious draft boards of L'tah, including the district board and the medical advisory board, to serve as clerks. It is a requirement re-quirement of the order that they be experienced ex-perienced in stenographic or clerical work. The men will entrain next Saturday for Kort Logan, Colo., where they will receive uniforms and other equipment. They will then return to Utah, after Captain Cap-tain Fitz Gerald has receipted for their supplies, and will be assigned one to each board until January, when a reassignment re-assignment may take place. They will work under the orders of Captain Fitz Gerald, who is an officer in the United St;t tes army reserve. Captain Fitz Gerald announces that volunteers for this service who have the necessary qualifications will be accented ac-cented if they apply soon enough. Inasmuch In-asmuch as the men must entrain by Saturday, quick action will be required, and involuntary induction will be resorted resort-ed to if necessary to raise the quota. It is probable that demands will be made on boards that may be reached by telephone, tele-phone, on account of the shortness of the time allowed. It is urged that those who desire to serve their country in the war, and who have the physical and other qualifications qualifica-tions for this service volunteer at once to their local boards, which will at once get in touch with the state headquarters headquar-ters and will announce the size of the quota it can readily furnish. i Pay for the enlisted men of this ser- ; vice will be the regular pay of an army J private, together with light, lodging and subsistence allowances, w hich total in all JS5 a month. In addition, the uniform uni-form is free. Promotions may be made on the request of state headquarters by the provost marshal general. While the allowance for the state is one man to each board, it is suggested that in case the services of any &u-h assistant are not required by any board, he may be transferred to some of the more populous boards, where his help will be welcomed. Joseph H. Bagley, Jacob J. Kinnamon and Farrell Galiaeher yesterday volunteered volun-teered to board No. 1 for military service ser-vice under the call received from the provost marshal general for such men as draft board assistants. The following were called by local draft board Xo. 3 to leave for Camp Kearny yesterday: Thomas Wilson Fitt, Stephen L. P.ynearson, E. A. B-msilaw. Jac b Edward Shipp. Fred C. Wo.d. Ferdinand F. Munier, Joseph L. Lawrence and Flun Keding. The same board called Mark Anthony May hue and George C. Lovett to go to Camp Lewis under a former call. Board X'o. 1 received competent ord-rs for the induction of James D. Gray !r the quartermaster corps. He will report at Fort Dougiaa. B'jard No. 2 sent eleven men to Camp Kearny yesterday and five to Camp Fremont Fre-mont Local boards are under instructions to tend all the registrants who may be placed in class 1. and found to be physically physi-cally qualified for general military service, ser-vice, to camp at once, thus cleaning up the number of such men in the stfe un-der un-der the registrations of June, l'Jl" and 1518. |
