Show LABORERS SLOW TO GO TO SHIPYARDS Campaign for San Francisco Fran-cisco Quota Closes Monday Mon-day ; Astoria Needs Men. Despairing of procurir.g the COO unskilled un-skilled workers necessary to fill a quota required for the Ean Francisco shipyards, P. J. Moran, director of the United States employment service in Salt Lake, yesterday yester-day stated he would ship out what men could be assembled up to next Monday nitrht and then cloee the campaign. "On this la-nt quota men have come in very slowly." Director Moran stated yesterday yes-terday evening'. He explained that in two days only thirty-nine men had been enrolled' for thut service, with very little prospect of getting- even a fair proportion propor-tion of the remaining- 261. Mr. Moran has indisputable evidence that there are numbers of workers in Utah eligible and available for government govern-ment work, but he has reached the conclusion con-clusion that those now remaining would prefer to move to sections of the country other than San Francisco. The bureau has an order for 100 workmen for Astoria, Ore., and after the last shipment is made next week on the San Francisco order an official call will be issued for the Astoria As-toria work. It is stated that new plants and yards are to Le erected at this place for the ledtral emergency fleet corporation. |
