At a meeting1 of the principals yesterday morning it was found that the majority favored opening Monday rather than Thursday. The plan is that the present week should be devoted de-voted to institute and perfection of plans to make up lost time in school work, then that the schools should start next Monday and continue without a New-Year's New-Year's vacation. City Superintendent of Schools lrnest A. Smith announced lasi night that an hour will be added to each se'nol day. In j the primary and grammar grades school ; will commence at' 8:45 a. ni. and will be j dismissed at 4.jj. m. The hours were formerly for-merly from 9 a. m. to 3:30 p. m. The high schools will start at 9 a. m. and dismiss at 3:C0 p. m. The sessions were formerly from 9 a. m. to p. m. Professor Smith said last night that the pupils should be full of vigor and pent-up pent-up energy, now that they have had such a long vacation, and that the longer hours should in no way interfere with their efficiency, lie stated that if a good showing is made in the classes the old schedule might be resumed early in the coming spring.
