Jimmy Richardson, sporting editor of the Portland Orcgonian, who arrived j yesterday with the University of Oregon football team to take in the game today at California, doesn't look for much in the way of Northwestern baseball this coming season. He says the McCredies W are "crazy" to get .back into the Coast league, but in view of the high cost of traveling on the trains, Jimmy can see no hope for such a league. "Now is the time to get Seattle into the Coast league." he said, "for the Seattle Se-attle folks Hie ripe for just such a proposition. propo-sition. But I presume if we do have baseball it will be the same Northwestern Northwest-ern league, such as we had last sea-, son." San Francisco Chronicle. , Walter McCredio, manager of the Salt Dake baseball club, is thinking seriously of quitting the lumber business, accord- ing to a yarn published in Portland. ! Not because he doesn't like the work. i but on account of the steep, muddy grades lie has to hike when going to , work. The story runs that recently McCredie was on his way to work. The road over which he had to travel was unusually muddy and -very steep, lie got half way to the top when, his foot slipped and he pulled a "Jack and Jill." McCredie didn't stop until lie hit a log that was stretched across the road, and this jarred him un considerably and also cut a deep gash in his leg. |
