| Show public libraries needs more public libraries and it is especially in need of a free public reading room whore the hundreds of students in our city could spend a few profitable hours when not at their regular studies THE ENQUIRER haa mentioned this matter before and we are pleased to notice that the volunteer firemen an organization of which provo is justly proud have led out on our suggestion and have already the nucleus of an excellent library the boas have bought some fifty odd volumes themselves and have received a number from friends without any public elfort there are many citizens who will encourage the laudable efforts of the firemen to establish a library for tha use ot the volunteer department and will gladly contribute a volume or two from their private li bianes contributions THE ENQUIRER is authorized to say will be thankfully received by the boys who BO freely give their time and often risk their lives in working for the protection of life and property in tha city their motto modestly aim to aid and burk to save it should the aim of patriotic citizens to aid them in return and perhaps a lot of choice books may also work to save some souls the firemen are but boys among our boys and the tendency of the boys we re grot to say seems to be to loaf about pool tables and public places A united effort oa the part of our citizens would turn the tion to more profitable pastimes and a fir emens library is an object on chic those efforts can ba exercised if oar citizens are liberal in this case their efforts may lead finally to the establishment of some public reading room commensurate with the size cf the city and its boast of berne the educational center of utah |
