Failure cf the United Slates government to advance the regular regu-lar allowance of 75 cents a man for feeding feed-ing the members of B battery. Utah fio'.d artillery, during the week's rendezvous In this city produced a difficult situation for the officers which was overcome today to-day by the action of the Utah National ' bank. With no security other than the announcement of the army officials that the allowance will be made, officers of the bank advanced SIO with whu-'n to reimburse the men and also provide meals for them durinp the balance of the week. "The action of the bank officials today to-day and other thing's that have cor.-.e under un-der my observation certainly convince me that the people of Ogden are behind us in the work we are about to take up," said Captain J. Ray Ward. "Many kindnesses kind-nesses have been extended to the battery bat-tery and to individuals of the battery which make plain the attitude of t.-.e people of Ogden regarding: the patriotism of the boys who are with us. This morning we received a check from the Firemen's association for our battery fund." It seemed virtually certain today that B battery will leave for Fort Douglas next Sunday. Despite the fact thrt; a majority- of the men will not have their uniforms until after they reach the post, arrangements are being made for a parade in connection with the departure. Except for brief visits by individual members, mem-bers, the battery men will not be back in Ocden orior to their departure for the California training camp after groins to Salt Lake. |
