| Show HIS HARD LUCK A valuable lee ice mine that tha t had find a boodoo in it somewhere the man with the negligee shirt was talking of hard luck says the buffalo express ill its just this way 1 he sail said when things get to going against you yon theres no stopping them luck and hard luck run in streaks with every man and when things get to coming your way theres no stopping them any any more than there is when they get tai to ai going against you As an illustration let me tell you of an experience I 1 had about three years ago I 1 began to have hard luck I 1 I 1 lost everything I 1 had one way or another and got into all sorts of trouble finally I 1 landed in richmond va stone broke without a friend to whom I 1 could apply for aid and nothing ahead of me but a turn on the roads as a tramp I 1 could got get nothing to do in richmond and I 1 started out to tramp up north it was as hot as I 1 tramped along day after day sleeping on the ground and stealing what I 1 had bad to eat which was vak not much u eh let me assure you one day I 1 struck stony creek which is in a wild part of the state I 1 f followed 01 lowed up along the creek until I 1 reached stone mountain and there I 1 made in ade a discovery I 1 found an loe ioe mine it was fully on an acre in ex extent t ent and the ice was vas as clear as crystal I 1 realized what the find meant and after taking my bearings carefully I 1 made my way back to richmond it take me long to get some interested in it and we formed a stock company with me as president to work the ice the next lexi summer it looked as if I 1 had a fortune in my grasp early the next nest summer we started toworu tow orif it but my irly hard luck came toddling along and did me up there a month that summer when we have frost and there was absolutely no demand for ice that left me stranded again and in worse shape than before 1 I dont seia see why put in the doubting thomas who wore a broad brimmed straw hat bat why you w wait ait and work it the next summer 1 I told you I 1 was in hard luek luck I 1 said the man with the negligee shi shirt rt severely well I 1 was although thou 9 athe the summer was cold the chewin winter was so warm that it melted every blamed bit of the ice and left nothing but a pool of water there which was of no earthly use to anybody |
