In accordance with the wartime movement to conserve the nation's food resources, the 'SYeber county board of education today decided decid-ed to postpone the opening of public schools in this county until Monday. October 1. It was originally planned to open the county schools on September Septem-ber 24. This date' was one week later than usual, owing to the decision for an eight-month school year, but the decision todav carries with it the plan for a compact term, all vacation periods pe-riods to be reduced and unimportant holidays to be eliminated. The action of the county board -was taken without formal suggestion from the Weber county farm bureau, the can-ners can-ners or manufacturers. A resolution was recently enacted cy the farm bureau bu-reau recommending the schools in the country be not opened until October 15, but the representatives delegated to convev this information to the school board has never appeared before that bodv. The board members also received re-ceived no petition from the canners such as was preseuted to the city board of education last night. In postponing the opening of all schools in the county because of the labor shortage and immense crops, the Weber county board held that it was not necessary to convene the students for organized work such as is planned for the city schools. This is due to the fact that country children will be employed more extensively in harvesting harvest-ing crops on their home farms.
