One of tho most Important meetings held In a long time was thc ono Thursday Thurs-day evening between tho farmers who had commenced tho big water suit and tho city representatives. Tho meeting was only Informal nnd was called to sec ir there were not somo common grounds on which thc contending parties could get together. There wus good crowd of farmers present and thc best of feeling was manifested. The old spirit or bitterness bitter-ness was absent, and it looks like the meeting was a torerunncr of a settlement settle-ment or tho ense out of court. The farmers made u proposition to arbltrato tho case by having the court decrco to thc city 1.35 second feet ot water for city purposes. The city has not Intimated whether it will accept this as u basis for compuunisc, but tho mayor will present the proposition to tho council. Wo don't know whether this compromise com-promise will bo fulr to the city, but wo aro Biire that if thc case can be sottled satisfactorily out of court it will buvo a vast amount of money and will lcavo a good feeling In the community, com-munity, two objects greatly to bo desired. |
