Show INDEPENDENT SOLONS TO HOLD CONFERENCE WASHINGTON, Jan. 30. A call to the independent members-elect of the sixty-fifth sixty-fifth congress for a conference here on February 6 was issued today by Representative Repre-sentative Charles H. Randall, Prohibitionist, Prohibi-tionist, of California. Mr. Randall said the meeting was to be a preliminary one for discussion of the form and purposes of an independent conference "which may act unitedly throughout the sessions of the sixty-fifth congress.' "We shall undoubtedly insist upon progressive pro-gressive control and progressive legislation legisla-tion in the next congress," lie said. It is understood the call was Issued to Representatives Martin of Louisiana, S-chall of Minnesota, London of New York, and Representatives-elect Miss Jeannette, Rankin of Montana, M. Clyde Kelly of Pennsylvania and Alvin T. Fuller of Massachusetts. With Democrats and Republicans about equal in numbers, the attitude of the independents is expected largely to decide the political organization of the house. The latest classification shows 215 Democrats. Demo-crats. 21n Republicans, two Progressives, one independent, one Prohibitionist and one Socialist. Leaders of hoth the older parties are watching closely the plans of the small independent group. |
